I Shouldn't be Surprised by the Stupidity, but...

  1. Oh geez,,,really?! It's a freaking story!! What about every film that portrays murder, rape, bigotry, etc. etc. Are those same people boycotting every other movie pretty much made and donating to those causes? Sometimes people can be so ridiculous.

    1. little girl, "Really?!" Was my first thought. Then I wondered if they had even read the book... I mean, I have seen domestic violence and I saw non of that in the books. Ridiculous sums it up quiet well.

    1. Roz, it's crazy, right?! All of it, even their page name, screams stupidity. And what baffles me more, I know someone that shared this on facebook--my perspective of this person has totally changed.

  4. Ignorance and lack of understanding. How is this modern day, in my opinion lousy work of fiction, any different from a Harlequin romance novel???

    1. Spankingly, doesn't it make you want to slap some understanding into them?

  5. Yes, it's FICTION. I keep reading comments around the internet saying it's being promoted as the ideal romantic relationship, but I haven't seen any such thing! I tried to read the first book, but I didn't like either character and was bored waiting around for the sex. I'm going to see the movie just because I keep being told I shouldn't go see it!

    1. Tiklish! It's been a long time since I've seen you around!

Call me crazy -and I could go into why I think this, but I won't-, I think she wrote this book going along with the Twilight series...she just kinked it up and took out the vampires.

  6. Considering some of the memes I have seen being shared can be said to promote abuse, and considering that the whole thing is such a far cry from what kink/BDSM is, I almost prefer this approach.

  7. I tried to read book 1 since my 75 year old mum had read it and declared it a good read. It was rubbish. I have no reason to believe that the film will be any better. But let's not let that get in the way of a bandwagon on which to jump. What is more, I saw at the weekend that EL James in launching her own range of floggers etc. Perhaps they would do better to go after her profits?

    1. julie, lol! I read it after my grandma told me she read it--at that point I figured I needed to know what the fuss was about. I did read all three, they had potential, but fell short.

They would do better to change a lot of what they're doing!

  9. I went to the movie. I didn't see anything at all worthy of controversy. Nothing remotely abusive. There was very little actual sex, and it was standard romantic movie sex. Lots of kissing and caressing and gentleness, kissing his way to her "inner goddess," not even one implied BJ. In their conversations he kept reminding her he doesn't do romance and lovemaking, while every scene looked like lovemaking to me. Even the couple of scenes where he tied her up were done very softly, slipping a feather and a flogger over her body . . . So it was all a big deal over nothing. Regular over air television has harder sex scenes than this movie. And "I Love Lucy" had better spanking scenes. Lol.
