The Snow is Melting

And everything is brown and muddy. And I love it.
We've even had sun and, despite our highs still being the 30°'s, it is warming in more ways than one.
I'm ready for flowers, plants, and buzzing life in our garden.
I'm ready to feel the warmth of summer!

I've also been on a mission, I'm determined to be more self-sufficient in the kitchen. I'm not a Suzy Homemaker, but I am capable and, besides, it makes me feel good.

I made my own egg noodles, by hand, for turkey noodle soup. They worked! A pasta maker might be in my future. :)
I also made bread. I would post a picture if it was a little prettier but, damn, it's good. We really don't need to talk about the first attempt, do we? (If your yeast happens to be a couple years old, it probably won't work, just FYI.) Here's the recipe, if you're interested.

Oh yeah, and the nipple clamps went on for the first time in three months. It hurt like hell, but I managed just fine, thank you very much. :)

  1. Lucky you...we had 16 inches of snow today! Nothing better than the smell and tasted of home made bread...I am impressed by the noddle making. So glad Master seems to have forgotten about nipple clamps...and of course now i have just doomed myself...

    1. abby, it snowed today, enough to dust the grass and upset me. Lol. I'm glad it wasn't 16in! The bread lasted two days, I need to learn to pace myself. ;)

  2. Yum. Home baked bread sounds wonderful and I'm quite impressed you can make your own noodles! I don't/can't/won't cook. Too busy doing anything else. :0 I do love to eat though. Hee hee. Amy

    1. Amy, this was my second attempt at noodles. The first time I tried to use my mother-in-laws recipe...as it turns out, mix some eggs and flour until it looks right, won't work for me. Her's are awesome though!

    1. lindy, it helps to feel productive. :)

You know, I thought the same thing, but clamps are one of my favorites now.

  4. I recently received a Kitchenaid stand mixer, as kneading was off my things to do list with my tendinitis, so was bread/bun making. I am now afraid we are addicted to carbs! I made pretzel buns not too long ago, they were great and gorgeous! Anyway we should start swapping (how to get fat) bread recipes! I am interested in your egg noodle recipe !!!

Happy to hear things are moving in a pleasurable direction for you Misty. LOL. What a whacked out 'world' we live in that I say that because you had to wear nipple clamps!

    Much love

    1. willie, my Kitchenaid won't turn on! It's so upsetting! He thinks he can fix it, part will soon be on order, wish us luck! :) If you start looking at noodle recipes you will find that not two of them are the same, everyone is right and everyone is wrong, which is quite frustrating. I suggest 3 eggs, 2 cups of flour, and 1 tsp of salt, beyond that, I haven't figured out the best way to mix and roll out.

  5. I'm chuckling at the homemade noodles and bread. When I was newly married, I used to do all of that too. It was all delicious but as time marched on so did I. Now I buy Grandma's noodles from the frozen food section and bread from the bakery. How far I have fallen.

    1. Leigh, after my first attempt, I started buying frozen noodles. Lol. They are SO much easier, but, for some reason, I'm just in the mood to do everything myself. And bread, I normally buy the super cheap stuff. You know, the kind with all sorts of ingredients you can't pronounce. :/ I guess you can't fall if you've never been up :)

    1. 1ManView, nice to see you here :)

Maybe it's the change in weather? If it works out you're in for a treat.

Oh, what I would do to feel fifty degrees! Two out of the ten years I've lived here, it has snowed in June...I never want to see that again. Lol.
